Taylah Dickinson’s disallowed goal and a head knock to Matilda McPherson took the shine off what was otherwise a strong Strikers performance, with coach Mick Simons particularly pleased given the absence of key players Charlee McPherson and Tanealle Eccleston.
“I was very happy with the way the girls took to the game today,” he said
“The attitude was positive and the passing game was there from the kick-off.
“Our structure went back to basics this week … and (that) may be how we approach the finals campaign.”
Keeper Tahlia Smith drew praise for a brave display in goals while Maddison Spencer and Alana Simons didn’t miss a beat and constantly threatened across the park.
“It was great to have Tahlia step up and play with confidence,” Simons said.
“She proved to everyone that she can be a dominant keeper and made some outstanding saves.
“Maddison has been the find of the season this year and is a wonderful utility player while Alana really showed her experience this week.”
The Strikers now turn their sights to sealing their fifth win of the year in Sunday’s upcoming clash with Plate contenders Young Lions.
The match begins 11am at O’Connor Park prior to the men’s games against Lake Albert Sharks.
