“With my interpretations of Christianity, I position myself in one place and others place themselves differently,” she said.
“It’s all about interpretation.”
Dr Mathieson has worked across Bathurst, Narromine, Condobolin and Parkes but is yet to share her teachings in Cootamundra.
“I worked for a while in Parkes (amongst others) and I found the congregation there to be very open minded,” she said.
“People were always interested in hearing new ideas, regardless of whether they took a fundamentalist appraoch or a more metophorical interpretation of the Bible.
“Of course, some found being challenged disturbing but often their faith rested on a purely literal reading of the text.”
“Rural communities can so easily miss out on contemporary scholarship so hopefully people come along.”
The Archdeacon’s presentation will cover the basic tenants of Christianity and hermeneutics in a biblical context.
