A count was held on Saturday night at the Family Hotel in conjunction with a social race night.
This was McDermott’s second Best and Fairest honour, the talented on-baller also earning the title in 2013 as a 17-year-old.
McDermott (111 votes) finished ahead of Blues captain Phil Bird (99 votes), Jimmy Finucane (74), Stephen Chant (68) and Joel Pearson (39).
In each match, three voting cards are handed out to record the day’s 5,4,3,2 and 1 players.
Both the men and the women votes went down to the wire with the winner being decided by the last match.
At the half way mark (six matches) in the men’s votes, Bird had a commanding 26-vote lead over McDermott.
However, McDermott came home strongly polling 71 votes in the final six matches.
With the Blues winning on a forfeit on Saturday, their final match for votes was last Sunday week against Woden.
Before that match in Canberra, Bird led McDermott by just one vote.
While Bird played his usual solid game, he did not poll a vote, while McDermott picked up 12 votes.
In his first season with the Blues, Finucane can be proud of a strong year finishing in the top three.
Meanwhile, Bloor will go down in history as the Blues women’s inaugural winner.
Bloor, 18-years-old from Wombat, was a star in the ruck all season and beat captain-coach Michaela Perceval by just two votes.
Going into the final match at Clarke Oval on Saturday against Tuggeranong, Perceval led by seven votes.
Bloor, however, carded the maximum 15 votes to Perceval’s six to secure herself the Best and Fairest tag.
Emily Poulton finished third with 45 votes, while Sally Ormond got 43 and Tymika Perceval 37.
While the women are finished for the season, the men now move onto finals commencing on Saturday week.
The Blues presentation night will be held on Saturday, September 9 at the Ex-Services Club.
