Cootamundra’s rugby union sides may have already confirmed their place in the upcoming finals series but Tricolours’ forward Corey Nicholson won’t be taking West Wyalong lightly on Saturday.

The under-performing Weevils have notched just four wins this year and remain out of finals contention, however Nicholson is conscious of the threat posed by a fiery West Wyalong outfit playing their season finale at home.
“(West) Wyalong are a tough side and they’ve pushed the bigger teams like (minor premiers) Blayney and Temora in recent games,” he said.
“The Weevils knocked off Condo 14-8 and were only just pipped 19-15 by Blayney, so we know what they’re capable of.
Just because our semis spot is confirmed doesn’t mean we can afford to let off on Saturday.
Nicholson admitted it was difficult not to focus on next weekend’s major semifinal but believes the lure of a five-game winning streak will rally the side and better prepare them for a Rams outfit who may lack match fitness after a four-week hiatus.
“Saturday is a big opportunity for us to string five wins together and have heaps of momentum ahead of our trip to Blayney,” he said.
“Dropping a game would really stall us and we want to be firing.
“Blayney has been forfeited to twice and it’s been four weeks since they’ve played (including byes) so we can really push them if we knuckle down and get the job done at Weevil Park.”
The Tricolours sit seven wins and 34 competition points clear of West Wyalong on the GrainCorp Cup Southern Division ladder, having defeated the Weevils twice already in 2017.
Meanwhile, the Tricollettes will be sweating on the availability of cross-coders Claire Black, Laura Miller and Georgina Heggaton ahead of their final regular season clash with the Redbacks.
The Coota girls have been more than a match for the minor premiers in the past, downing the Redbacks 32-31 in a Country Club Oval thriller last month, and will look to spark another upset during West Wyalong’s Ladies Day festivities.
