The luxurious two-storey pad was snapped up by a local buyer this week for an undisclosed figure, believed to be within the asking price of between $8.5 million and $10 million.

The former world number one forked out $8,325,000 in 2004 for two apartments spread over levels 19 and 20 of the exclusive Yves tower on St Kilda Road.

He then spent four years renovating to create a mega penthouse boasting six bedrooms, seven bathrooms and panoramic views over Albert Park and the city.

The celebrity couple lived in the apartment for several years before it was first listed off-market in 2012 for $15 million.

The price was later slashed to a cool $10 million in 2014 but still failed to snag a buyer.

Last year, the Hewitts reportedly moved back in when they permanently left the Bahamas, fuelling speculation the pair had given up on trying to sell the luxurious pad.

But it was put back on the market again earlier this year ??? this time with WhiteFox Real Estate, the third agency to handle the property's listing.

After just 90 days on the market, listing agent Ryan Fisher confirmed the property had sold on Wednesday afternoon.

The luxurious residence features two kitchens, an eight-car garage and a private sauna and steam room.

The entire penthouse was completely restyled in the lead-up to its listing, with new furnishings and finishes bolstering its modern appeal.

"It didn't look expensive enough online," Mr Fisher said. "It just didn't look like how a modern house should look.

"We basically completely restyled the residence."

Mr Fisher also directly contacted 800 CEOs and high-ranking executives across the country in a bid to attract a buyer ??? a tactic that proved successful.

"The buyers are absolutely over the moon," he said.

The Hewitt family is understood to not be looking for another Melbourne property.
