Each and every Bear did themselves, their club and our town proud never giving up.
The under 10s tackle team came away Southern Inland Rugby Union premiers, a tag they will no doubt wear with pride when they return to school tomorrow.
The boys, and one female player, went into the clash with Griffith knowing their opponents had size and strength on their side but they weren’t daunted.
Cootamundra is not one of the biggest sides in the competition, however coaches Anthony Shepherd and Paul Clancy have ensured, all season, the young players have the skills they need to be competitive.
In winning the premiership trophy, they showed belief, heart, teamwork and perfecting basic rugby skills can be enough on a sporting field.
The Bears got their noses in front in the first half, going into the break 20-10 leaders.
A Griffith try saw them catch up 20-15, before Cootamundra hit back 25-15.
The two sides traded tries until the end with the scoreline 30-25 in favour of the Bears at the final whistle.
Unfortunately, the Viva girls under 10s and under 13s could not replicate these victories, however they can be proud of how far they have come in the tag form of the game only introduced to the Cootamundra club this year.
More to come from the Bears camp.
