The couple had hoped to marry in India this November, but have now put their nuptials on hold as the baby is due around that time.

"An unexpected and beautiful blessing, this next chapter of our story will be quite a ride," Franks, 41, said in a statement.

"After a beautiful few weeks holidaying in Europe, I arrived home yesterday to share the news with friends, family and of course, my tribe.

"We had plans to marry in India this November, but life is full of surprises! We aren't in a rush to get married and for now, want to focus on enjoying the precious moments of being a little tribe," she added.

Franks told Fairfax Media in March that she was planning for a baby.

"Expect to see the belly grow, if that's what the universe wants for me," she said at the time.

"I'm a control freak. I'm a bohemian control freak though," she added, explaining she hoped to conceive by the end of the year.

However, the pair were surprised they were able to conceive so soon.

Franks and Jones' love story is like something out of a Nicholas Sparks book.

They met and dated as young travellers in London in the late 90s. When her visa ran out, she had to return to Australia, but they always kept in touch.

After 18 years apart, they reunited in 2015 and got engaged this past New Year's Eve in Wales, where the two spend part of their time relaxing with family in their hometown of Cowbridge, located seven miles west of the capital Cardiff.

They plan to divide their time between Sydney and Wales with the baby.
