Aaron Byrne will assist Buttriss in 2018.
Byrne will bring plenty of experience to the role, after filling various leading positions with the club.
The former Canberra Raiders utility will remained based in the nation’s capital next season.
He thought having Byrne help him with the coaching responsibilities will be a big boost.
“I’ll be doing it (coaching) with Aaron so I won’t be doing it all on my own,” Buttriss said.
“I can’t wait and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Cootamundra have struggled over the past two seasons, but Buttriss is looking to change things.
“I didn’t really get to play too much senior football before I l left, when I left I was 17 and played half a dozen games, so I can’t wait to get back there,” he said.
Despite rumours Cootamundra has already landed a plethora of returning faces, Buttriss admitted they were yet to secure anyone.
“We’re still trying to work on a few people,” he said.
Meanwhile, outgoing Bulldogs coach Warren Lloyd is still weighing up his future.
With his season virtually over before it began due to a pectoral muscle injury, Lloyd is undecided on what he should do next.
"I need to get my body right to be honest," Lloyd said.
"I shouldn't have played those four games I played this year as I am a little bit off as far as strength.
"It is a frustrating thing and I have to wait and see if I can get my body right before I make a final decision.”
The rising 30-year-old said years of playing rugby league was starting to take its toll.
"I probably should retire as the body is getting a little battered and bruised now but we will see,” Lloyd said.
"I struggle to wake up on a Monday morning after a game of footy and I shouldn't be.
"It is probably time for me to have a break.”
While on the fence about his playing future, Lloyd suggested if he did play next year it would be for the Bulldogs.
"I will see how I go over the next month and make a decision on what I am going to do,” he said.
"I will probably commit to Coota if I do anything.”
Another reconsidering retirement is former Cootamundra and Temora coach Grant Boyd.
While indicating he was going to hang up the boots after leading the Dragons this season, there is a temptation to return to his hometown club.
"I don't know what I am doing," Boyd said. "I am still retired at the moment."
Boyd turns 33 next year and labelled fitness as his biggest concern.
"One more year I could probably last, but I don't think I will,” he said.
"If I can get fit I will play."
