As the football season winds up across the Riverina and on a national scale, attention turns to the summer sport option of many Cootamundra youngsters; cricket.

Registrations are now open for for Cootamundra’s junior cricket season, which kicks off next month.
This year, the Cootamundra Junior Cricket Club will host Milo In2 Cricket for four, five and six years olds, an under nines team of boys and girls, and under 12s team of boys and girls, an opens (under 16s) team of boys and girls and the girl’ Twenty20 competition for year six to year 10 students.
All younger age groups are played between Cootamundra and Harden only, while the opens becomes a South West Juniors team this year featuring players from Young, Cootamundra, Temora, Ariah Park and possibly Harden.
The Milo In2 Cricket program is being looked after by Daniel Fry this year and will run each Tuesday between 5pm and 6pm between October 17 and February 20, 2018, excluding school holidays.
Milo In2 Cricket is designed to give kids an introduction into the sport.
Meanwhile, the T20 girls will play a 10-week non-competitive season kicking off on Friday, October 13. They will play each Friday night at Mitchell Park from 5pm until 7pm.
The regular Saturday competition will start on October 14 for the nines and 12s and October 21 for the opens.
The draw will be determined after October 10, with parents asked to ensure their children are registered before then.

Cootamundra District Junior Cricket Association president Dean Guthrie encouraged parents to be proactive and register their kids early.
He said cricket provides an excellent sporting outlet for those youngsters who played football during winter.
Ryan Radnedge has played for a number of years now and is looking forward to this year’s season getting underway.
“I like batting; it’s fun and I like it when I can give the ball a big whack,” he said.
