The Cootamundra Scout movement was established in 1910, and has occupied the current building since 1959.
The current hall on the corner of Parker and Mackay Streets sees a lot of activity, often hosting up to 100 cubs, scouts, leaders and parent helpers at any one time.
The Hall is used regularly on a weekly basis for the different scouting groups, fundraising events, presentations and local and regional meetings, camps and day events.
The local scout group also holds a number of regional activities at Cootamundra with Gundagai and Tumut as well as all Riverina scouting groups.
The new work on the hall includes installing a new electrical meter box, three split system air conditioning units and a new oven.
Repairs on water damaged roof panels, gables, fascia, eave sheets and corner moulds.
The front door and window sills have also been repaired.
Still to be completed is the installation of new insulation, repairing the roof and guttering along with sanding and resurfacing the floor and some painting.
Cootamundra Scout Chairperson Ms Cindy Paag said the improvements will bring the building up to standard.
“By improving and maintaining the Scout Hall all scouting groups can safely leam the skills and values that will help them throughout their lives,” she said.
“The wider community will gain an improved venue for meetings, parties and other events.”
Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council administrator Stephen Sykes also agreed with Ms Paag’s comments.
“The Scouting movement instils ideals and principles in our young people.
“We need to encourage them and show that we are supporting the work they do by supporting the upgrading of the hall and making good on much needed repairs,” he said.
“I’m really pleased this project is almost complete.
“It’s fantastic when community organisations are able to improve their facilities for their activities, whilst also improving a facility the whole community has access to, it can only make Cootamundra Scouts a stronger organisation.”
The works on the Cootamundra Scout Hall is expected to be completed by the early October.
