NSW RFS Superintendent Andrew Dillon, attached to the South West Slopes Zone, urged community members not to become complacent.
“The warm and dry Winter has resulted in reduced grass fuel loads for our area compared to last year, however, a fire can still escalate quickly under hot and windy conditions,” he said.
During the Bush Fire Danger Period anyone wishing to light a fire in the Cootamundra-Gundagai or Hilltops Council areas will require a permit.
Permits can be obtained from the local NSW RFS brigade.
Please contact the South West Slopes Zone Fire Control Centre on 6386 3170 if you would like to be put in contact with the NSW RFS brigade in your area.
On days of Total Fire Ban all permits are automatically revoked.
