She will take up the deputy’s role at Hay War Memorial High School from next term, a move which allows her to be closer to family.
While excited for her next adventure, Ms Nelson is sad to leave the “very busy, vibrant” school that is Cootamundra High School.
As a deputy, she is still afforded time in the classroom, keeping her in touch with students.
It is this interaction and being part of seeing young men and women evolve into adults that keeps Ms Nelson passionate about her chosen career.
This week she watched a crop of students she saw bright-eyed on day one of year 7 graduate with the world at their feet now they have completed their schooling until their year 12 HSC exams.
“Getting kids to adulthood when they can fly on their own is why I do it and why I love it,” Ms Nelson said.
