Berkrey is the only non-Wagga based player to be named in the strong 20-man squad for the Regional Bash.
The finals of the state wide competition will be played at NSW’s premier cricket ground.
The 21-year-old is excited for the chance to play at the historic venue.
“It would very good,” Berkrey said.
“They seem pretty pretty positive and obviously made it last year.
“It would be good to do it again.”
In a change from last season the four Riverina teams will all play each other this year.
Wagga will tackle Border Bullets at Billson Park in Albury on Sunday.
They then travel to Griffith for a double header with Southern Vipers and Murray Bushrangers two weeks later.
The team with the best record qualifies for the finals to be played on the SCG.
With wins over the Rangers and Bandits last year, Wagga played in Sydney, but couldn’t make it past Orana Outlaws to qualify for the final.
The left-handed batsman, who plays for Come Alive Fitness Crusaders, started the South West Slopes season well with an unbeaten 27, was surprised to get the call up.
Especially after declaring he’s likely to miss the round’s play on November 5.
However he’s looking forward to the opportunity.
“I’m excited to play and see what happens,” Berkrey said.
“It will be good to play with some of the higher level blokes in Wagga so I’m looking forward to that.”
Berkrey will play on Sunday but is in doubt for the double header with the games in Griffith clashing with the return of the Stribley Shield.
“I’m a selector now with the rep cricket,” he said.
“I didn’t want to put Coota aside to play with this.
“I might change my mind on that.”
Playing for the Sloggers could also mean he could miss the potential clash with older brother Luke, who is set to play in the Gundagai competition this season.
