The branch has received an honour sticker for raising $13,561 during the 2016/2017 financial year.
The majority of fundraising efforts come from the branch’s opportunity shop on Parker Street and the amount is after the shop’s rates and electricity have been accounted for.
“We’re very proud of the fact that we’ve worked very hard in our little shop to raise this money to support our local community,” shop co-ordinator Helen Eccleston said.
“We really appreciate the support of our community with their wonderful donations,” Mrs Eccleston
Residents can donate spare clothing, kitchenware, homewares and toys with money raised to help others.
“It’s very special, it’s coming from head office and not all branches get them,” president Betti Punnett said.
Ms Punnett said as well as charitable efforts locally and beyond, the branch has also worked to make the shop more appealing to customers and the volunteers who help out.
The Red Cross shop will be closed for Christmas and is set to re-open on January 22 next year.
Volunteers will be continuing with their extended trading hours which were introduced earlier this year, which will see the shop open from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
New volunteers are welcome to help out whether it’s a shift once a month or once a week.
Anyone looking for more information about the shop can contact Ms Eccleston on 0408 626 825.
The Red Cross branch meets at the shop on the second Friday of each month and residents can call Mrs Punnett on 6942 1158 if they have questions.
