The annual Surf Life Saving New South Wales Interbranch Carnival was held on the weekend of 7th and 8th December at Bulli Surf Life Saving Club on the South Coast of NSW. Competitors from Under 12s to Opens were selected to represent their respective branches and compete against the best surf competitors across the state. The three Macleay Clubs were well represented by Kempsey-Crescent Head Alannah Koivu - Under 12s, Taylah Moffit - Under 13s, Isabelle Koivu - Under 14s, from South West Rocks Georgia Gaddes - Under 15s, James Gaddes - Under 12s, and Darcy Swaine - Under 14s from Hat Head. Interbranch Team Manager, Melinda Cockshutt, commented on the team's performance. "The conditions were very testing and the team learnt so much about how to navigate out through the break using their timing, patience, and mental toughness," she said. "They are better athletes for persevering in the big swell. The competitors also made some great friendships. I want to congratulate them all and wish them the best in their preparation for the SLSNSW Envirobank Country Championships at Kingscliff and SLSNSW State Championships at Swansea-Belmont towards the end of the season". Beach competitor, James Gaddes, who represented the Mid North Coast for the first time, was excited about his first Interbranch. "I competed in the Under 12s beach events. It was tough competition and the sand was really hot. I met lots of new friends and look forward to competing again next year if I make the team," James said. Water competitor, Taylah Moffit, represented the MNC for the second consecutive year, commenting. "It was a valuable experience and an honour to be part of a great team. It is always a fun weekend where our skills were tested in some rough conditions. The high class competition will ultimately help prepare ourselves for other major carnivals later in the season," she said. The annual Mid North Coast Branch Championships will be held at South West Rocks on Saturday February 15 and Sunday February 16.
