Dame Elisabeth Murdoch is mourning the death of her great grandson, killed in a farm accident a fortnight after the matriarch turned 100.Eighteen-year-old Will Paterson died on a family property at Willaura, west of Ballarat at the weekend.Two weeks before, on February 8, the family had celebrated his great grandmother's centenary.The Courier believes Will went hunting alone on Saturday night and did not return. A search of the family property was launched and his body was found at 6am on Sunday.It is understood the body was entangled in a fence, leading police to believed Will was climbing through the fence when his gun accidentally fired.Will was the son of local landholders Rowly and Judy Paterson.Mrs Paterson's mother was Helen Handbury, who is sister to News Ltd boss Rupert Murdoch and daughter of Dame Elisabeth. Mrs Handbury died of cancer in 2004.A family notice published in the Ararat Advertiser described Will as "a beautiful young man".A private family funeral has been planned, to be followed by a service of thanksgiving at Wirrinourt, the family property at Willaura, tomorrow at 2.30pm.Will is survived by his parents and siblings Sarah, Helen and Nick.The Paterson family owns Victoria's Ace Radio Network, which has stations in Traralgon, Warrnambool, Colac, Hamilton, Horsham and other parts of regional Victoria.
