Trained by NSW leading trainer Steve Turnbull at The Lagoon, near Bathurst, the six-year-old gelding was driven by son Mitchell, who steered the $3.70 favourite to an easy victory from barrier 10 after making a move mid-race.
The mile rate of 1.58.8 showed the quality of the performance of Parramatta which won by 18 metres from another Bathurst trained horse Tulhurst Ace (Amanda Hedges) with rank outsider Amanda Von (Brett Jones) in third place.
To make it a real family affair Parramatta is owned by Steve’s wife Jenny.
This year’s trip was a successful one for the family with them also winning the opening race on the day, the Carlo’s IGA Pace with Jet On Ice, also driven by Mitchell Turnbull.
Mitch made it a winning treble when he drove Dollarbill ($1.70 favourite) for Riverina trainer David Kennedy to win the Conqueror Milling Company Pace.
Promising junior driver out of the Riverina, Cameron Hart, scored with Sir Roy in the Keith Boxsell and Tony Ward Appreciation Pace.
Trained by Shane Hillier, Sir Roy started at the good odds of $5.60 and proved too strong for Prince Kai (Chris Judd) and Forest Fury (Mark Cullen).
Long term sponsor South West Fuels gave their support to the Club once again and following heats run last week a classy field lined up for the final with the oddly named Chip Ganassi ($27.50) defeating Plato O Plomo (Brett Jones) and Innocent Crocker (Amanda Hedges), in a close finish.
There was good support for the meeting with Club officials Keith Boxsell, Tony Ward and Steve Hunt doing a huge amount of work to once again bring the Carnival of Cups meeting to Cootamundra.
