Cootamundra Public School deputy principal Sharron Large was recognised for 30 years in the teaching profession at Thursday’s assembly.

She obtained her first permanent teaching position at the start of 1987 at Finley Public School, where she spent two years.
Following that she did a stint at Galong Public, a small school, and began at Cootamundra Public School in 1988.
For the last six years, Mrs Large has been assistant principal at the school.
Over her years, she has taught the gamut from kindergarten to year six and currently has kindergarten.
She was inspired to enter the teaching profession by her year two teacher at Junee North Public School.
Having been in the job for three decades, Mrs Large is now starting to see the next generation of students enter her classroom.
A highlight of her career is seeing the students she taught enter adulthood and make their way in the world, but still remember their time at Cootamundra Public School.
“When you see an ex-student you haven’t taught for 20 years and they come up to you and remember being in your class and tell you what they are doing now; I love that,” Mrs Large said.
Conversely, she remembers all of her former students.
“I never forget a name or a face,” she said.
The biggest change in schools over the last 30 years, Mrs Large said, has been in the technology available which is now such a part of everyday education students do not know any different.
From smartboards to iPads, it is a whole new world.
“I used to hand-write the reports!” Mrs Large said.
Teaching kindergarten, Mrs Large said she is constantly amazed and enthused by what the kids learn in their first year at Cootamundra Public School.
Education is a wholistic experience these days; not only is she a teacher, on any given day, Mrs Large can be a doctor, a nurse, a psychologist, a counsellor and more.
She said school is about much more that academics with a focus on ensuring students are socially confident, empathetic to others, have sporting and craft opportunities and more.
She has no plans to leave Cootamundra Public School anytime soon still thriving on her career as a teacher/assistant principal.
