After missing out on Pascoe and Leonard Cup finals respectively, the sides looked set to bring home the fifth-placed trophies but fell at the final hurdle.
Henwood Park proved too good for the women at Wagga’s Equex Centre, mirroring their two-goal semifinal margin with a 2-0 victory in their afternoon fixture.
It was a valiant effort from a Strikers side in their maiden Leonard Cup season but ultimately not enough as the Falcons struck twice to secure the Plate.
More surprising was the men’s result as Tumut stunned Cootamundra for the second time this year in a 2-1 Plate final upset.
The Strikers prevailed 3-2 in their last encounter but couldn’t reel in the plucky Eagles.
More to come.
