Mr Rurenga will be covering Cootamundra’s news from court to sport.
He’s no stranger to the Riverina after growing up in Wagga Wagga before starting his journalism career with Junee’s Southern Cross and The Daily Advertiser.
Mr Rurenga has spent the last 17 months working in Orange with the Central Western Daily.
“My goal is to ensure the Herald is worth reading online and in print,” he said.
Editor of The Daily Advertiser Ross Tyson said Mr Rurenga brought a wealth of knowledge to the job and would soon be a familiar face to many.
“Declan’s keen to get out and get all the news that’s fit to print in Cootamundra and district,” Mr Tyson said.
