Racing history buffs, Louise Clayton and Tegan Ellis, have sponsored the third race at Wagga, the Jockeys Memorial Class 1 Handicap, and also donated a plaque.
While there are national memorials in Sydney and Melbourne, this tribute is specifically in remembrance of five riders who have lost their lives in incidents at the track.
Meanwhile, three runners from this year’s Cootamundra Cup will go around in Monday’s feature race at Wagga, the Ted Ryder Prelude (1660m).
Malleable, Zarlu and Bondo, which finished seventh, eighth and ninth in the feature on October 1, are among 11 entries for the $23,000 race on the MTC’s Riverside track. The winner is assured a start in the $30,000 Ted Ryder Cup (1600m) on Friday December 22.
