Next day the semi finals, and a great tussle between K Breasley and team versus G Hagan, E Jarrott, R Cleveland and D Manwaring. Level at seven-all Don’s team grabbed a five and the fight was on. It was then 17-all and 18-all with one end to play.
Arthur made a good start with a bowl a handspan behind jack on the line and it looked good until a bowl from Clive, who had played several earlier winning bowls, hit an opposition bowl that rolled right up to the jack. Skip Kevin could not remove it and the final score was 19-18.
Other semi final was between W Watmore, K Townley, R Crowe and M Barber and C Willis, E Thorburn, D Bateup and W Manwaring and although behind at the halfway mark, they dominated second half for 24-14 victory.
The final was a father and son, Manwaring, affair, and the “young gun” Bill, with the help from his team Charlie Willis, Eric Thorburn and David Bateup proved too strong for Geoff Hagan, Eddie Jarrott, Roy Cleveland and Don, finishing with 21-12 score and the 2017 title.
