It’s not just playing for pride – there’s also a $5000 prize pool, with the winner taking home $1500.
Players have until January 5 to nominate for the two-day event which includes a round-robin contest on the Saturday and a knockout on Sunday.
Carnival co-ordinator Tisha McTavish is hoping to see 50 teams registered for the 2018 carnival – the 34th edition of the event.
During the last carnival there were 45 teams registered.
With hundreds of people expected to register for the competition, it’s not just the grounds at Nicholson Park and Fisher Park which are expected to be packed.
McTavish said one team was travelling from the Northern Territory for the carnival as well as teams hailing from Canberra, Sydney and Cootamundra.
“For many ex-residents it’s a great excuse to return to see family and friends but also to play touch,” she said.
The carnival is the major fundraiser for the junior touch association and is run with help from the senior rugby league club.
McTavish said the Rebels had been a regular competitor in the grand final while next year marks 25 years that the team Boneheads has been playing.
The benefit isn’t just shared with the junior touch association, Cootamundra’s businesses are set to reap benefits.
With 14 people needed for each team, McTavish said it was a big influx during January from teams travelling to Cootamundra for the event.

“It’s a huge influx of people in town,” she said.
“The hotels and motels are normally booked out and some people book [accommodation] a year ahead.”
Teams are allowed have six people on field per game, with a minimum of 14 people needed per team.
Only eight men are permitted on each team and no more than three men can be on field at any one time.
Nomination forms are available from the Family Hotel, Globe Hotel or the Cootamundra Ex-Servicemen’s and Citizens’ Memorial Club – or the Cootamundra Junior Touch Facebook group.
