Essential Energy staff will be working in Poole Street from 9.30am to 2.30pm.
The power will be switched off to provide workers with safe access to the electrical network.
“Electricity network maintenance and upgrade work is planned in advance to try and minimise the impact on local residents and businesses, however, regular maintenance is necessary to secure a safe and reliable power supply and reduce the likelihood of unplanned power outages,” Essential Energy’s acting southern regional manager Greg White said.
“During summer, Essential Energy assesses power outages planned across the southern region on a case by case basis to determine the appropriateness to proceed in accordance with relevant health, safety and environmental procedures and policies.”
Mr White said network maintenance and upgrade work was only postponed in exceptional circumstances as it can lead to minor equipment failures causing major damage to equipment and longer power outages.
“All affected residents and businesses have been notified of the power outage in advance to enable them to make alternative arrangements, if required,” Mr White said.
