It’s the eighth annual carnival and it’s become part of the Australia Day tradition despite being played the weekend after last year.
“There is a already a lot of local interest with Coota Thunder returning after an absence of several years,” co-organiser Pat Kerin said.
However, it won’t just be a local affair, with Canberra team Dilligaf’s set to travel for the day and they’ll be lead by former Coootamundra cricketer Rodney Melmoth.
Kerin said eight teams took part last year and organisers were hoping to see more teams enter the carnival.
Last year, a team of Charles Sturt University students lead by Hamish Pennington won the competition. Pennington lead from the front scoring 58 not out.
Kerin said each team was guaranteed at least three matches, with games to be played at Albert Park and Clarke Oval.
Meanwhile, the winners of each pool will play their finals at Albert Park before players retire for refreshments at the Cootamundra Ex-Serivcemen’s and Citizens’ Club.
Nomination forms can be obtained from David Garness on 0478 728 723 or Pat Kerin on 0417 284 286.
It costs $100 to nominate a team with nominations to close on Tuesday, January 23.
