The ban was declared ahead of windy and hot conditions which are forecast for February 14.
The Southern Slopes zone includes Cootamundra, Harden, Gundagai, Boorowa, Young, Tumut and Tumbarumba.
Total fire bans are also in place for the Southern Ranges, Northern Slopes, Central Ranges, Greater Hunter, Greater Sydney Region, Illawarra, New England and the North West.
No fires may be lit in the open and all fire permits are suspended during a total fire ban.
Gas and electric barbeques may be used provided certain conditions are met.
Resident are being encouraging to follow their bushfire survival plan.
Under ‘Severe’ fire and ‘Very High’ fire conditions the RFS says a well prepared home which is actively defended can provide safety in the event of a fire.
The total fire ban begins at midnight.
