With 600 tonne of sand the street has been transformed.

The Coota Beach Volleyball Festival might be one of the town’s biggest events, Mr Manwaring said his contribution was “only small”.

Mr Manwaring has been helping to create volleyball courts for 14 years and he’s got the methods down pat.

This week he spread the loads of sand around 200 metres with his trusty Caterpillar loader to make it easier for other volunteers.

“We’ve got so many people in the town who do so much for the groups and organisations. This is one of my small contributions,” he said.

“It was the idea of a young bloke who wanted to help Cootamundra attract visitors. It’s a great event for families.”

After play finishes on Saturday the Ex-Servicemen’s and Citizens’ Club hosts an after-party from 9pm.

“There’s a real buzz around town,” club secretary-manager Greg Bruce said.

He said many visitors were looking to go out after playing and the club had invested in attracting six DJs and security.

“There’s DJs from Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne, it brings a bit more of a nightclub feel to the event,” he said.

Mr Bruce said the after-party was about adding to the atmosphere around town and at the club.

“[The volleyball] committee needs great commendation it really is good for the town,” he said.

Volleyball committee president Janine Ricketts said play would start at 8am on Saturday and reminded players to be there at least 30 minutes before hand.

Mrs Ricketts said the event was family friendly and there would be ice-cream, coffee and a barbecue will be running.

“Beach sprints will be held during the lunch time break between games, with mens, ladies and under 18s sections,” she said.

Spectators get free entry and Mrs Ricketts said people were welcome to watch.

“There’s no glass permitted in the event and security will be checking bags and eskies,” she said.

Teams aren’t just playing for honour – there’s cash prizes for grade winners.
