Guest speaker, Michael Dash, will explore the birth of Buddhism in North Eastern India 2500 years ago and trace the development and transmutation of Buddhism in its journey West.
He will discuss core Buddhist ideas and practices and explore the ways in which these practices have found expression in a Western context.
Michael is the coordinator of the Sydney Local Health District Bereavement Counselling Service. He has worked as a bereavement counsellor since 2000 at a number of adult hospitals and at the Children’s Hospital Westmead.
Michael has worked in the area of HIV/AIDS and in the Community Sector with young people at risk as well as in Local Government. Michael was also a teacher and school counsellor in Victoria and co-manager of the Buddhist Library and Meditation centre in Camperdown Sydney.
Michael has been a student of Buddhism and meditation for over 25 years, studying at Buddhist monasteries in Australia, Thailand, Burma and Nepal.
