The websites of eight newspapers in the region will soon introduce local news subscriptions: The Daily Advertiser at Wagga, The Area News at Griffith, Cootamundra Herald, The Irrigator at Leeton, Harden-Murrumburrah Express, Coly-Point Observer, Junee Southern Cross and Eastern Riverina Chronicle.
Subscription packages will include unrestricted around-the-clock access to each masthead’s website and all of the local news, sport, opinion and community information produced by its local journalists, as well as the latest national news and sport, and the option of breaking news alerts and regular e-newsletters emailed to your inbox.
The eight mastheads are part of Fairfax Media’s Australian Community Media regional, rural and suburban publishing business.
South-west NSW managing editor Andrew Eales said the new subscription offerings would seek to foster greater community support for the local journalism that audiences relied on to keep them informed and connected.
“Each of our mastheads has a proud history of delivering the local journalism and essential information their community trusts,” Mr Eales said. “With so many more readers connecting with us online these days, the launch of our local news subscriptions will allow us to boost our online journalism to meet the modern demands of our audiences and the communities we serve.”
Launch dates and full details of subscription offers, including prices and premium options, will be announced in coming weeks.
“The growth of our digital audiences in recent years shows the value our local communities see in our journalism,” Mr Eales said. “By subscribing for online access, readers will be helping us continue our mission to deliver quality local journalism.”
No changes are proposed for the print editions of the newspapers.
The ACM network of hundreds of newspapers and websites stretches into every state and territory.
No decisions have been made relating to other ACM mastheads beyond south-west NSW.
