As well as several placings, they earned the Reserve Grand Champion for a fine wool ram and Reserve Champions for a super fine wool ewe and fine wool ewe. They presented four sheep and two fleeces which claimed first and second in the hotly contested wool classes.
Royalla’s Sue McDonald said it was one of the best showings for the stud since 2010. She said the Sydney show was the best way to promote the stud’s genetics and build anticipation for their on-property sale later this year.
“There’s a lot of science, a little bit of luck and a fair bit of hard work,” Mrs McDonald said.
“Luck is needed because no matter how well organised you are, or how the genetics stack up, every now and again it doesn’t work. You’ve got to get everything right all the time.”
Mrs McDonald said until sheep were presented at a show and were competing against other breeders, it didn’t matter what a breeder thought.
“You’re not just competing against people locally, you’re competing against people from Tamworth to Hay and across NSW,” she said.
