Magistrate Michael O’Brien disqualified Rankin from driving for 12 months and issued him with a 12 month good behaviour bond.

According to the police facts issued to the court, about 2pm on Wednesday February 28 police attached to the Young Crime Prevention Unit were patrolling on North Street in Harden in an unmarked police vehicle when they noticed a maroon coloured Holden Commodore travelling towards them.

The police did a U-turn and attempted to stop the vehicle, but Rankin sped off along North Street refusing to stop for police and travelling at high speed.

The section of road that was being driven on was a 50km/h zone and police estimated the speed Rankin was travelling was in excess of 100km/h.

Rankin turned left into Aurville Rd. Police remained behind the Commodore and saw there were two males in the vehicle who continually looked in their direction. The car accelerated to a speed of no less than 110km/h and was still in the 50km/h residential zone.

A short time later Rankin turned onto Barwang Rd and continued on through a section that was undergoing roadwork with traffic lights. Rankin continued through the roadwork still travelling at a speed of no less than 110km/h in a 100km/h zone.

Approaching the intersection of Lynwood and Cunningar Roads police saw the male passenger throw brown coloured items from the passenger window and into the long dry grass on the side of the road.

The court heard Rankin pulled into the gateway of a rural property where he stopped and both he and the passenger were arrested.
