The guest speaker, Annie Harvey from Sydney is the manager of Migration Support Programs for NSW and the ACT.
The people supported are from countries that have, and are, experiencing severe conflicts. Many are well educated who are willing to work anywhere to improve their life situations.
The state government is keen to resettle people in country areas particularly those who are losing populations, but there has to be jobs available for newcomers before this can work. Some towns are having success with this initiative.
Our winter fundraiser will be a wonderful food hamper complete with generous vouchers for meat and vegetables. At $1 a ticket they will be in demand. Ticket selling will begin soon and the raffle will be drawn at the end of June.
The next meeting will be on June 5 at 2pm in the Wallendbeen War Memorial Hall.
