“We were talking about how some kids have medication that makes their hair fall out and she offered some of hers,” Mrs Perry said.
Ava, who calls herself Rapunzel because of her long hair, instead will donate it after it gets cut for the first time.
When she was researching how the hair could used by Variety, Mrs Perry started a fundraising page to help out a little more.
The Perry’s were blown away as over $1500 had been raised, with their goal of $500 reached in a few hours.
“A lot of teachers, our friends and parents of students have donated, plus people we don’t even know,” Mrs Perry said.
While much of Ava’s hair, around 36 centimeters, will be donated, a few strands will be kept.
“I want to keep a little bit to make a moustache,” Ava said.
Ava will get her hair cut at the end of June, you can support her fundraising by visiting the website hairwithheart.everydayhero.com.
