Horrible conditions and wet weather plagued the neighbouring clubs but it was the Strikers who emerged victorious thanks to some Joshua Purtell magic in the dying minutes.
The sides traded first half goals and looked set to play out a 1-all draw before Purtell blasted a shot past the keeper in the 86th minute to seal Cootamundra’s great escape.
Strikers captain Adam McPhail was happy to bag the side’s fifth win and stretch their unbeaten streak to six games.
“We probably let them stay in the game after being 1-0 up and made a mistake in the backs to let that goal through … but Junee are a good side,” McPhail said.
“They had boys backing up from reserve grade and they still played very well.
“For us, a win’s a win and it’s important for us to get those three competition points out of it – doesn’t matter how ugly it is.”
