While pleased with the result, coach Dave Tozer said the women still had plenty to work on especially when it came to using and staying in their structure during the game.
Tozer said one of the team’s strengths was its ability to adapt, which allowed Cootamundra to run away with the game against Harden.
“We can’t rely on our improvisational ability with each team,” he said.
“Our discipline (against Harden) was very good but we have to work on some little things.
“We still need to have structure and to work through set plays.”
Errors by the Harden side gave Cootamundra plenty of chances to use their speed to get over the line to score.
During their Tozer has been telling players to have patience as they didn’t have to score points each time they touch the ball.
“It’s moving from line outs or set plays to places where we think we can be stronger and capitalise on our pace and improvisational ability,” he said.
“We’ve got to be patient and grind out 10 or 12 phases.”
From the weekend’s game against Harden, Tozer said Laura Miller, CODIE NICKA and Libby Perry were among the best on the field.
Tozer said the men’s Central West Rugby Union GrainCorp competition was split between north and south, but the women’s Westfund Fergusion competition was a mix of both areas.
This weekend while the Tricolours will play Grenfell, the women will play Orange Emus.
The coach said it would be a good chance for the team to benchmark themselves against a team which they hadn’t played before and would be an unknown quantity.
“We can see where we’ve come from and where we’re going,” Tozer said.
“Instead of meeting them in the finals, we get one chance to play and potentially grab points and maybe meet them later in the year.”
The Tricolours train at 6.30pm at Country Club Oval.
