The market consisted of 3120 lambs, 728 ewes, 29 hoggets, 158 wethers, 40 rams, 56 old sheep.
The yarding this week was possibly the best quality yarding for a fair period of time with some heavyweight lambs coming forward, plus a very good selection of high quality trade weights which are all a credit to the local vendors.
The market over the last two weeks right across the country has continued to rise, and Cootamundra Saleyards this week was also on the “band wagon’’.
With all the regular buyers cramming the rail and an additional Southern processor trying to find a spot, sales were $10 to $15 better than the previous sale and up to $20 better in some cases.
Once again there was still some interest in the late spring store lambs from the processors who mostly out bid the restockers.
Local restockers were able to pick up some light lambs for between $80 and $120.
The top price of the day went to The Hardie Pastoral Co Berthong, who had an outstanding run of lambs, with the lead pen making $208.
With an estimated carcass weight of 28 kilos and wearing a $10 coat they came back at $7.07 per kilo CW and went to Australian Lamb Company on a knock call.
“It’s a good result,” Hardie Pastroral Co’s Alex Hardie said.
“With the way the market is at the moment, we thought it was quite strong in the saleyards,” he said.
“Selling livestock can be a gamble, but it’s paid off going through the saleyards this time.
“It’s a good time to be in the sheep industry with wool and meat prices the way they are.”
Mr Hardie said he worked with livestock agent Corey Nicholson from Holmie and Tolmie who advised on ideals weights for sheep and their presentation.
Meanwhile, mutton continues its buoyant rampage with very good interest shown in most mutton in the yard on Wednesday.
Russel Gregory at Quandialla presented heavy cast for age XB Ewes that made $174.20
With estimated carcass weight of 32 kilos and dressed up in a $10 coat they came back at $5.05 per kilo CW
The Mutton market was also firm to $5.00 better on the previous sale.
