The club is hosting Ladies Day and Old Boys Day with many players from the 1988 Group Nine Premiership team returning for a 30 year reunion.
Meanwhile, the club’s first grade side will be searching for redemption against the SouthCity Bulls.
“It’s the biggest day for the club this year and one of the biggest for the club as a team,” assistant coach Aaron Byrne said.
After coming away with a win in Albury, Byrne said this weekend was about building on that victory.
Improved discipline and ball control helped Cootamundra beat Albury and Byrne said there was no room for error with SouthCity.
“They are the benchmark team and have been for the past couple of seasons and they embarrassed us during our last meeting this season,” he said.
It’s not just about avenging a loss – just a few points separate third through seventh on the Group Nine ladder.
A win helps keep the Bulldogs in the hunt for a finals berth.
“The pressure will be on us thanks to a few losses [Gundagai and Tumut], but hopefully with the excitement of what’s happening on the day and knowing what's needed from us, we can put something together,” Byrne said.
“We will have the same team as last week which will hopefully help us be consistent.”
Byrne said any errors in the team’s game would be punished as SouthCity were able to turn them into opportunities for them to score.
While it’s set to be a big day for the club, utility Chris Maher will be celebrating his 100th first grade game for the Bulldogs.
Maher moved to Cootamundra at age 12 and made his first grade debut in 2010, the season after leading the under 18s team to their first Weissel Cup premiership.
He’s also been selected for Group Nine’s Indigenous All-Stars side
Byrne said Maher had been consistent through the season, filling gaps in positions across the paddock as the team’s ‘Mr Fix It’.
“He’s performing exceptionally well no matter where he has been asked to play,” Byrne said.
