We regret being unable to supply further Cootamundra Heralds of our issue of Friday, June 6, containing the letter from Captain Harold Conkey about the experiences in Greece.
The inquiries for copies are still coming in from near and far.
Over at Young, Mr Dud Rand, formerly of Cootamundra, has been passing his round and round.
We know that many in Cootamundra and district put the paper away, for the letter was worth reading again and lending to others to read; and we should like to ask if any among such would mind returning to us their copy, so that we may send it on to the father of the soldier mentioned in the letter, now reported among the missing.
From the following letter it will be seen how keen the father is to receive copies, and we trust that some of our friends will oblige.
He writes: “Dear sir, Having seen your great account of the retreat from Greece by our boys, in last Friday's paper— and, I may say, the only account I have seen so far — would you oblige by posting four copies of the paper.
They are of special Interest, as my son is the Captain John Snowden Copland referred to in your paper. I may say Mr Les Crawford, late of Cootamundra, and now in the Dominion Hotel, Market Street, Sydney, gets your paper regularly!
That is how 'I got hold' of my copy. Thanking you in anticipation, John Copland.”
Captain Conkey's father, Alderman Lloyd Conkey, is also anxious to get more Heralds of that date, for requests keep reaching him also.
