Purtell sustained a knee injury in the Strikers’ last outing – a 2-all draw against Tolland – but was hopeful of returning in the back end of the season.
However, scans revealed the in-form Striker’s season is well and truly over.
“Josh will be out for about 12 weeks, so I’d say he’s pretty much done for the year,” Cootamundra skipper Adam McPhail said.
“Nick Ashe also did his knee over the weekend and is hopping around with crutches and a knee brace, so we’ll be up against it on Sunday.”
Thomas Phillips is the likeliest candidate to back up from reserve grade against the Eagles while young guns Connor Thornley and Matthew Hoy will fight it out for the remaining spot.
“We’ll give Tom limited minutes in reserves and hopefully those young blokes can step up too,” McPhail said.
“This is the most important period of the year for us and we need to be picking up as many points as possible against those sides like Tumut and Wagga United.”
