When your town shares its name with one of Australia’s most beautiful wattle varieties, there’s even more reason to welcome the coming spring.
As part of the Wattle Time spring fair and street parade, shops decorated their windows to join in the spring fun, and mount some decorating rivalry.
There was a lot of enthusiastic support for the competition, but the eventual winner was St Vincent de Paul.
Volunteers scoured the items in the store for anything and everything yellow and mounted a sunny-coloured display that was set off by painted wattle trim.
Wattle events kept Cootamundra busy for the whole month of August, ahead of Wattle Day on September 1.
Thousands of people turned out for the annual street parade and market fair in Fisher Park.
Cootamundra Development Corporation chairman John Stephens said August was an a time to “watch the town turn yellow”, with businesses throwing their support behind the activities.
Mr Stephens said Wattle Time gave Cootamundra the opportunity to showcase “all the wonderful things” the region had to offer.
The traditional street parade was well-supported, with car enthusiasts turning out for the parade, along with members of the Light Horse.
A vivid yellow VW was one of the stand-out vehicles.
Meanwhile, Miss Wattle Ebony Davey’s official duties included cutting a cake as children enjoyed rides at the family-friendly day out.
Volunteers from Southern Cross Mobile Mechanics did their bit to help CanAssist by taking part in a quick shear charity fundraiser.
The staff had been keen to “give something back” to the Cootamundra community.
A Wattle Time debuntante ball gave 10 young couples the chance to show off their new ballroom dancing skills at an event attended by about 140 people.
