Cowled will start off the bench when the under 23s side takes on their Group 20 counterparts at E W Moore Oval on Saturday.
Cowled is one of six changes to the original side.
A combination of injury and unavailability has forced coach Tim Humphries to reshuffle the side named earlier this month.
The loss of front rowers Zac Masters and Hayden Philp is the most notable changes.
Albury lock Liam Wiscombe has moved into the front row to cover.
Humphries doesn’t believe it is a concern.
“I’ve got every faith in the boys,” Humphries said.
“He’s got plenty of ability.
“I don’t think we lack too much size but will have plenty of mobility and hopefully we will move them around and shift them around a bit.
“I’m not overly concerned.”
James Hay has also shifted to the front row but played there for Brothers at times this season.
Wiscombe impressed Humphries with his willingness to play up front.
“I gave him the option and asked him where we wanted to play and he said he just wanted to play to play football and would do whatever it takes,” Humphries said.
“To me that tells me of his attitude and willingness to step up and give it his best shot.
“I’ve got all the trust in him. I know he can play football, he’s fit, he’s strong, he’s committed and I don’t think we will lose much at all to be honest.”
Junee winger Rusaite Kaliseiwaqa, Southcity pair Riley Flint and Josh Siegwalt, Brothers utility Liam Carey and Young’s Casey Wall have all come into the side.
Aidan Sweeney, Jonathon McNamara, Dylan Murdoch, Matt Murray and Brayden Draber have all come out.
Humphries isn’t concerned by the changes.
“It is mainly injuries and we can’t control that and just have to adapt,” he said.
“A lot of these kids have first grade experience and were shadows any way.
“We didn’t name all the shadows and were in the mix of the top 25 squad.
“I’m still very confident with the side that we have got and they are all first grade players who bring their technique, skills and ability to the game.”
Cowled joins fellow Bulldog James Smith in the side.
Smith will start at halfback as Group Nine look for another win over their closest rivals.
They scored a 66-6 win when the two sides met earlier this year.
It is the second meeting for the season after a change in the timeframe for the Country Championships with a Riverina to be selected following the game.
