Southern Cross Mobile Mechanics organised for five volunteers to participate in a charity quick shear, with all money raised to go towards Can Assist.
Southern Cross Mobile Mechanics co-owner Sheree Webber said the shear raised money than they had hoped for.
“We raised $4017 dollars, I think was the final count,” she said.
“It was probably more than what we expected.”
The business and it’s volunteers have not run this type of fundraiser before.
Mrs Webber said the warmer weather was now proving kinder to those that went under the barber’s clippers, and, in one case, actual sheep shearing clippers.
“We had a online fundraiser and we also had the buys with tins walking around and we had some prizes that we auctioned off as well.” Mrs Webber said.
Can Assist aims to ensure that all country people have access to cancer treatment and care through accommodation and financial assistance.
The organisation, which is active in the Cootamundra region, will soon have more funds to distribute locally thanks to the round of ‘Click Go the Shears’ for those on two legs.
“Can Assist is a cancer charity but it’s local, so all the funds raised in Cootamundra will stay in Cootamundra,” Mrs Webber said.
“We’d like to thank everyone.”
Mrs Webber said the group wanted to continue fundraising but they will look for other types of events.
