The market consisted of 922 new season lambs, 1045 old lambs and 2432 mutton.

With the dry times continuing, the quality of the stock presented was not quite as good as previous, with a much larger increase of store stock and a big increase in mutton sheep.

Some lines of new season lambs are showing signs of dryness. The mutton market was very good with a good line-up of heavy weight animals. With regular buyers present and a few extra southern operators acting spasmodically they operated in a market that was $5 to $8 cheaper for new season lambs, while old lambs were similar to the last sale, although the quality was down.

Surprisingly there was a bit of re-stocker interest on lighter store lambs. Top price were new season lambs making $213, from John Chapman, of Harden. With an estimated CW of 25kg and wearing a $7 coat, they came back at $8.20/kg and went to Cedar Processors.

Top mutton price was a pen of heavy bare shorn merino ewes making $190. With an estimated CW of 37kg and a small $4 coat they came back at $5.05/kg CW. The top price for hoggets was $166.

Other new season lamb quotes – 24-26kg CW made from $ 200 to $213; 22-24kg CW made from $180 to $190; 20-22kg CW made from $160 to $170; 18-20kg CW made from $140 to $150; 16-18kg CW made from $120.00 to $135. Most three to four score new season lambs were in the $8 to $8.50/kg CW. Mutton prices ranged from $4.50 to $5.50/kg CW range to average approximately $4.80/kg CW.
