The second such expo, following a major revamp last year, will be hosted in conjunction with the Cootamundra Show on October 20.

Organisers plan to promote the career, education, health and lifestyle benefits of moving to the region to suburban residents from as far away as Melbourne and Brisbane. 

Staff from Cootamundra-Gundagai, Coolamon, Junee and Temora will join with estate agents, employers and other residents to answer questions from potential new residents.

Last year’s event at Temora attracted about 40 people, though organisers consider that number a good sign as attendees made a major commitment to travel from the areas where they currently live.

Promotional materials for the expo have urged potential residents to make a ‘tree change’ to the Riverina.

Pamphlets and the ‘Country Change’ website promote how the region can offer a country lifestyle while still offering close access to larger cities like Albury and Wagga Wagga.

A website set up for the expo highlight’s Cootamundra’s hospital, schools, low set-up costs for businesses, major employers and sporting community.

Cootamundra’s heritage as the birthplace of Sir Donald Bradman features prominently in the campaign. 

“Life could be different. All you have to do is make a tree change to NSW’s Riverina Region,” one of the pamphlets stated. 

“Making your tree change is about making more time for your family, getting ahead financially and making yourself a better life and future.

“With exciting career and business opportunities, affordable, comfortable housing, stunning scenery, excellent infrastructure and plenty to see and do, why haven’t you made your tree change to the NSW Riverina Region? Imagine how good life will be!” 

The Country Change is run by Regional Development Australia-Riverina on behalf of participating councils.
