Those were the words of the Blues’ president Todd Basham echoed at the Blues AGM held last Sunday at the Family Hotel.
Basham in his president’s report said, “Although the Blues finished seventh in both competitions, the club took many positives out of the season.”
“The continued improvement in the women’s side who won three matches, the individual success of Jimmy Finucane in winning the club and league best and fairest as well as the league’s leading goal kicker.”
Playing up a grade in Division three, the men’s side were competitive for most of the season winning six matches, however were beaten by 26 points or less in six matches.
The members agreed both sides need three or four quality footballers to play finals next season.
At the AGM, Todd Basham, was re-elected as president for a sixth term.
In being elected for a sixth term. Basham joins Peter Hogan 1983-88 and Rod Knagge 2008-13, the other two-committee persons to hold the reins for six seasons, which is the most of any president.
Senior vice president is Pat Kerin and junior vice-president is Mark Loiterton.
Lee Loiterton, who has done a great job as secretary, was also re-elected for a sixth term.
Sally Ormond was elected as treasurer replacing Shelly Johnston. Other committee members are Ron Milthorpe, Rob Shumack, Michaela Perceval and Justyn Smith.
In the election of office bearers, Basham praised the commitment of outgoing treasurer Shelly Johnston who stood down after five years.
Jason Baldock, who also has been part of the committee for five years, stood down. He is still available to assist and can always help at the picnic races. He just will not be as visible.
The Blues welcomed Sally Ormond and Michaela Perceval onto the committee.
The meeting reported that the club is in sound financial position.
Pat Kerin mentioned that the Blues would celebrate two milestones next season. Six times best and fairest winner Stephen Chant will play his 200th match. Chant finished the 2018 season on 197 matches. The last players to play 200 matches for the Blues were Basham and David Harris in 2002. Joel Pearson, who has played 149 matches, looks forward to celebrating another milestone next season.
Basham concluded that the Blues look forward to 2019 when the club will be celebrating 60 seasons of Australian football in Cootamundra.
