Cootamundra Police Inspector Frank Brown said a bank told the business they had a potential counterfeit note on Monday.
“The teller handed the note back after it was taken in among other notes. The business was none the wiser until they took the money to the bank,” Inspector Brown said.
The note has been sent to the Australian Federal Police for examination and Inspector Brown urged anyone with information to contact police or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
“I’d urge business owners and cashiers to be careful, especially with large denominations,” he said.
“Counterfeit notes tend to have obvious signs such as a different size, texture or colour or they may be missing important markings.”
