A T20 cricket match this Sunday is a fundraiser for Elouera School and will be at Albert Park at 1pm.
Cost to play, including umpires, is $20 and the target is to raise $500 for the school.
The match will also celebrate 60 years of the first cricket match played on the new turf pitch at Albert Park.
Rex Merrin, who donated the Merrin Cup in 1945, was also responsible for the laying of the first turf pitch at Albert Park in 1957.
The first match was played on September 28 1958.
The match was played between the President's X1 and Patron's X1.
During the innings break the mayor of Cootamundra, Ald Des Stratton, officially opened the new pitch.
Many cricketers both young and old have got a lot of enjoyment out of Rex’s great foresight over 60 years ago.
This match was supposed to be played last December; however, did not go ahead because of rain.
With all of our teams playing away on Saturday, Sunday’s match is the only match at Albert Park this weekend.
Finally, it is good that the senior and junior cricket is doing something good for the community.
