Residents who live on the road signed and delivered a petition 10 to 12 months ago to the Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council requesting the road be sealed.
Despite their address being within town limits, to access their properties locals have to endure a rough road full of corrugations and deep trenches caused by rain.
Ten properties and approximately 19 people live on Warralong Road.
“This is the only road within the 50km/h zone in town that is not sealed,” said Warralong Road resident Robert Cram.
“As ratepayers we deserve to be treated the same as everybody else in town.
“We don’t even get garbage delivery or postal delivery. The condition of the road means garbage trucks and postie bikes cannot safely access their properties.”
PO boxes are necessary as their location in town eliminates them from having a roadside mail box on the corner of Boundary Road and Warralong Road.
Residents have asked council to provide more short-term relief with regular grading and watering.
Michaela Schmidt has been putting up with the rough and dusty conditions on the road for 18 years.
“Considering it’s a no-through-road, it’s quite busy traffic-wise and the dust is very bad,” she said.
Wear and tear on vehicles has been another issue faced.
“There’s a lot more rattles in our cars now,” Mrs Schmidt said.
Three funding pools contribute toward local road maintenance.
The federal government Roads to Recovery Program provides direct funding to local councils, the NSW government Block Grants for regional roads and the local council’s own funding streams.
Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council was approached for comment but no response was received at the time of going to press.
