Jason Jones and Graeme Dennis with their opponents being Geoff (Bloopy) Manwaring and Rod (Pickles) Bradley after they dispatched Peter Colvin (sub) and Henry Wilson with a great 27-22 win to secure a finals berth.
Geoff and Rod had the best of the early ends in the final securing 6-2 lead at the completion of seven ends but Jason and Graeme fought their way back to have the scores all tied at 10-all with 11 ends left in the contest.
From this point they were never headed and went on to claim the major/minor title with a 19-17 win and in doing so, Jones secured two championship titles in his first year of competitive bowls, these being major/minor and club triples titles. Great effort.
THE 60th anniversary commenced on Thursday with mixed bowls being the format for the day.
Due to work on the green, 12 teams were the maximum number of teams for the day’s play.
Robyn Snape, Graeme Snape and Wally Chater had all the shots to claim first prize with two wins + 7 one shot ahead of second placed team of Lorraine Evelyn, Rob Hillier and Pat O’Brien with two wins + 6 while third place went to Mick Manning, Annie and Dennis Rosen from Young with one win + 11.
Friday was the men’s turn to compete with again six rinks in play the winners for the day were Jason Jones, Terry Smith and Jim White with two wins + 29 while only three shots behind in second place was Kevin Medcalf, Scobie Beasley and Mick Barber and Wayne (Rocky) Ford, Paul Cockram and Graeme Dennis collecting third prize.
Cootamundra Ex-services would like to like to thank the Country Club for all their assistance in rounding up five teams over the two days to fill the green and Ron Rosengreen for supplying the bread.
SOCIAL BOWLS
SUNDAY consisted of three games of triples and a game of pairs, with the closest game on rink six between A Cooper, P Cockram and Pickles who claimed the vouches with a 28-25 win after an extra end was needed with the score locked at 25-all on the completion of 21 ends.
O Lopez, Rocky and M Willis had very close 26-23 win against N Blackett, A Small and T McDonald.
Rink five saw G Bushell, M Andrews and R Hillier had a 26-19 win over N Webb, Froggy and K Hampton, while in the pairs game J Jones and J Goggin had 25-14 against D Igram and G Hillier.
