The club was one of several regional groups to salvage equipment from the soon-to-be demolished stadium, with Cootamundra players re-purposing a grain truck to collect seats for the new clubhouse.
The road trip volunteers were also treated to some national attention as a TV crew was on-hand to film the stadium being stripped down.
Life member Justin Roberts told Channel 7 that the club needed about 200 chairs.
“We’re taking 1000 and donating the remaining 700 to the community around Cootamundra, other sporting organisations and small towns.”
The members collected the seats on Friday with the help of Coopers Couriers and Morton’s Contracting.
The salvage crew also posed for photos with Sydney Roosters memorabilia that was being removed from the stadium along with the chairs and VIP booths.
Club supporter Madison Watkins said it was hard not to appreciate the level of community spirit the club’s men and women displayed as they departed on the four hour voyage to Sydney.
“They’re building a new clubhouse and they needed new seats. I didn’t go but I knew a few people that went,” she said.
“I thought it was a great thing for the community in general.
“The seats are for the spectators for up the top of the clubhouse.
“I thought it was a great thing that they were able to do it. It’s something I had never seen or heard of before.”
Mrs Watkins said the road trip was arguably be the most action anyone's grain trailer had seen all year.
The $570,000 new clubhouse project at Country Club Oval was jointly funded by the NSW government, Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council and the senior and junior rugby clubs.
